From Sherriff’s Deputy to Award Winning Pastel Artist

Meet our new Art Cocoon Featured Artist Paul Harman!

This beautiful painting of the Grand Canyon was judged Best Pastel in the April 2018 Plein Air Magazine Salon Competition. It was also featured in the book ‘Strokes of Genius 10’ published by North Light Books.

Paul painted throughout his 25 years as a Deputy for the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department and then 14 more years with the State of California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training. Paul explains his love of art “It was my escape from the seamier side of life and tragedy I saw daily when working the streets of Los Angeles county cities patrolled by the sheriff’s department”.

A gift from Paul’s wife, art lessons with the distinguished pastel artist Reif Erickson, was what really started his journey with pastels. He has studied with several other pastel painters and spent the last 13 years painting and living the dream of being a professional artist.
