Painting on Kings River

By Art Cocoon Featured Artist Paul Harman

I was visiting with my brother and his wife in Sanger, California and their home backs up to the Kings River. I had taken my portable pastel backpack with all my gear and decided to paint a scene looking upriver from their deck.

As you can see, I used one of my Art Cocoons with the 11”X14” cutout and taped a piece of 9”X12” Colourfix sanded paper to the Cocoon well. It works great as a backing surface because the Cocoon is sturdy and fits right onto my portable Mabef easel. I will be using these more now for Plein air work because when one is done for the day it is easy to slip the cover on and use the large elastic band provided to secure it. Pastels smear easily so the Art Cocoon is a perfect transport or storage medium for them until they can be finished and framed.
